About Jon Koehler
Where it All Began
Jon Koehler’s journey as a sculptor began in his family’s wooden boat business, where he learned from his father the value of strong work ethic, meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail. From an early age, Jon faced a choice between working with wood or metal. He was drawn to the possibilities of metal, where his passion began to take shape.
In the boat shop, Jon fabricated intricate stainless steel pieces for the vessels. He was struck by the beauty of the material and couldn’t bear to see the remnants go to waste. This curiosity and resourcefulness led him to repurpose scrap metal into his first personal creation: a stainless steel heart for his mother.
That simple, heartfelt sculpture marked the beginning of a lifelong exploration of form, movement and transformation.
Over time, Jon’s work evolved into the monumental, balloon-like sculptures that now define his signature style. Each piece is born from a dialogue between material, light and space — a tension between strength and fluidity that invites the viewer into a moment of wonder. Surfaces capture and mirror their surroundings, curves suggest motion and forms oscillate between playfulness and permanence.
Working in stainless steel, Jon pushes the material to reveal its hidden qualities. The result is art that is bold and inviting, dynamic yet meditative, precise yet alive.
Jon approaches each sculpture with total dedication, crafting every form by hand, welding, finishing and shaping every detail. His process is meticulous, his vision singular and the outcome is a work that invites interaction and wonder — a sculpture that becomes part of the life and story of the space it inhabits, leaving a lasting impression.
Through his art, Jon Koehler transforms stainless steel into emotion, reflection and presence - creating sculptures that resonate visually and profoundly in the way they inhabit a space and the lives of those who experience them.
